Destination Wedding Travel Resources
Many people choose a destination wedding because they want to combine the wedding and honeymoon, celebrating both in the same wonderful location. Others want to separate the two; enjoying the nuptials with family and friends in one location, and then moving off to another spot, as Mr. and Mrs. for a few private days of relaxation. In either case, travel research will be part of your planning.
Whether you ultimately work with a travel agent, or book travel through your wedding planner, you will still want to do some of the preliminary research yourself. You will find that with the internet resources available, and a little time and effort, your options will expand, and the term "full price" need not apply to your choices. Many sites exist for bargain hunters, and it is possible to save hundreds of dollars planning a trip.

And why not? According to Brad Packer, the director of public relations at the Four Seasons Resort Lana'i at Manele Bay "Honeymooners are a very attractive segment of the travel market...They tend to travel with less limits on discretionary income and will stay in upgraded rooms or suites, treat themselves to fine wines and champagne, as well as experience more activities and amenities during their stay, as it is treated as a 'once-in-a-lifetime' experience. Additionally, honeymooners often make regular return visits, as the resort will hold a strong sentimental value to them."* In your research and phone calls, don't be shy about explaining what kind of trip you are trying to put together. You may find that resort owners and travel agents "go the extra mile" to accommodate your wishes.
While doing your research, don't forget: you're "shopping around." It doesn't hurt to ask (politely) for prices and possibilities, or to mention other prices you've found, in the hopes of further discounts.
